Honor Society talks about the Salvation Army (part 1)
From Salarmyhr "Before their show in Norfolk, VA, we had a chance to talk with Honor Society about their involvement with The Salvation Army on their tour. Part I. " Posted on 29 Apr 2010 by *Ashley*
Article by John Moser from The Morning Call
After Jonas tour, Honor Society still working to stay at head of its class April 29, 2010 If pop-rock band Honor Society seemed like overachievers last summer when they opened for The Jonas Brothers’ tour while playing their own simultaneous club shows tour – often jumping off the larger stage to rush to the smaller one – consider what they’ve done since. Honor Society (from left) Alex Noyes, Michael Bruno, Andrew Lee and Jason Rosen To support “Fashionably Late,” its debut disc on the Jonas Records label, the New Jersey quartet went on another club tour (it stopped at Blue Mountain Ski Area’s Rock The Fall Festival, The Note in West Chester and a New Year’s Eve show in Hershey.) In December, they played “You Really Got Me” in the movie “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel.” In January, they opened for Timbaland on his Shock Value II tour and performed the National Anthem at the NFL Pro Bowl Game. They had a song on the “Team USA Olympics 2010 Soundtrack.” They were on Radio Disney’s “All Wrapped Up 2” Christmas disc. They played at New York City’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony and at the New York Stock Exchange, where they also rang the opening bell. And now they’re on yet another headlining tour, the Here Comes Trouble tour, which started in March and stops tonight at Allentown’s Crocodile Rock Café before wrapping up May 8. As if that isn’t enough, they’ve begun writing songs for their next album – some of which they expect to play at Croc Rock tonight. “I don’t think we really want to stop,” keyboardist Jason Rosen says with a laugh in a recent telephone call. “I think we like to keep going, we like to keep busy. December was actually one of busiest months – when most people are taking some down time. … We like to stay busy – we’re always looking at the next thing and trying to keep writing and trying to stay ahead of the curve.” “It’s funny,” says singer/guitarist Michael Bruno. “We recently had put together for us sort of like a highlight reel of a lot of the things that we’ve done in the last year, and when you look back at it, we’re just like, ‘Wow! All those things we’ve done. “And we still feel – I think we’ll always feel – that we’re an emerging band, and we’ll always sort of have that motivation and that sort of ‘We need to prove ourselves’ within us.” But Honor Society already has proved quite a bit. Rosen, Bruno and bassist Andrew Lee had played New York clubs for a couple of years before being joined by Alex Noyes, who had been a drummer for the Jonases. That helped get the band’s music noticed by the Jonases, who gave them the tour opening slot. They also helped produce “Fashionably Late,” which debuted at No. 18 on Billboard’s albums chart. But after the tour, Honor Society learned Timbaland also had heard their music – likely the band’s performance on ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” -- and asked them to join his tour. “The music between his set and our set wasn’t as different as people would kind of think,” Bruno says. “It was just a night of like funky, awesome pop music. He’s got so many hits, and just his album’s awesome. So it worked out, and I think it was really cool, because he got to be exposed to our fan base, and we got to be exposed to his fan base.” Lee says that despite the band’s ties to the Jonases, Honor Society – with two of its members now above 30 -- “felt for a long time that our music kind of spanned genres and spanned whatever social lines.” “It’s a good feeling to know we can reach Timbaland fans, that it’s not that different,” Lee says. But perhaps the coolest moment was when Honor Society got to perform with Jay Sean, Noyes says. “All tour long we had been covering the Jay Sean song ‘Down,’ and we basically get up and we sort of break down the set and we sing it a cappella/four-part harmonies,” he says. At a show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, “actually it worked out where Jay Sean was also in town, and it was a really cool moment – we actually had the opportunity to have him come out on stage, unbeknownst to all of our fans. “They were expecting the acoustic break-down of our song, and then all of a sudden, the verse kicks in and Jay Sean walks out on stage and it was a really great moment. For our fans, and it was just cool to collaborate with another artist like that.” Between all of its activities (!) Honor Society members moved to Los Angeles to write and demo new material. “That’s one thing we never stop doing, is writing.” Lee says. “We’re always trying to stay creative and keep fresh material coming out. … Always trying to get new ideas down. That’s one of our favorite things to do.” But he says the new music won’t stray too far from the band’s recognizable sound. “I think people can expect it’s going to sound like Honor Society,” Lee says. “I think we have a lot of different sides to our sounds. We have some new ballads that we’ve been writing, we have some more up-tempo, funky stuff that we’ve been writing. You heard that wide variety of sounds but it’s still Honor Society, and the stuff that we’re writing now is still in that same world.” Posted on 29 Apr 2010 by Stephanie

Big thanks to my friend Stefani for this awesome video of Jason singing Use Somebody in New York! Personally, it was the first time I had seen him perform it because he never performed it in California, and I was REALLY excited. Jason has a phenomenal voice.
